THAT'S NOT LOVE

My young friend from Ethiopia here, was a magic maker for my heart.  We photographed her extended family with great reverence and all in the name of a project called YEGNA (which mean "OURS"  in Amharic, 1 of 82 languages in Ethiopia).  YEGNA (Yen-ya) is part of the Nike Foundation mission to eradicate poverty by investing in girls (girleffect.org). I had worked on the GirlEffect for many years in Portland, Oregon, but to have the chance to be in the global field for 6 months to launch a brand in Ethiopia for girls - was a life-time and life-changing opportunity. A hearty and awesome mission.

OK, so mom wasn't included in our P+G homage, Proud Sponsor of Moms for the 2012 Olympics and beyond. But she may have well as been.  

I had the honor of working on a campaign that finally gave the global mom the 'nod' she deserved, and honestly, but grandly so. Great strategery and creativity at W+K coupled with great partners at P+G allowed us to make some powerful stories for the Olympics and the Special Olympics.

It was a long road with a brilliant outcome and a lot of tissues.

To work on the Sony account, a brand close to my heart in teenagehood / lifehood was a rich experience. Nothing could have made a larger impression on me than my first visit to Sony headquarters in Tokyo during the cherry blossom or "Hanami" season. The clients asked if I had experienced this before and having said no, they got up from their seats in our formal meeting and said we must go outside at once. We all walked - suits and all - through the elegantly designed row of trees amidst the city. Walking under the falling pink pedals, we honored mortality and being in the moment, knowing nothing will ever be the same. Always a powerful lesson. In life and marketing.
